What is Universal Studies?

Universal Studies is a concierge approach to studying English and traveling in America while growing from a True American experience.

I’ve been interested in this kind of experience for a long time, but I am not good at English. Can I still apply?

Good news! You do not have to possess perfect language skills to fulfill your dream. As you embark on your adventure, you will learn the language and culture at your own pace with others who have similar abilities and you will find yourself dreaming in that language after a few short days abroad.

Do I need to get a visa before I apply?

You will need an ESTA or a B2 Visitor Visa once your placement is confirmed. Universal Studies provides details and guidance in how to obtain these documents after acceptance into the program.

What do you look for in applicants and what makes an applicant stand out to be selected for the program?

An applicant should be motivated, hard-working, flexible and open-minded, have good recommendations from teachers and community members, as well as, good physical and mental health, outgoing and social personality, and a respectful, open and optimistic attitude towards family, school and other cultures.

My parents are hesitant to allow me to go abroad. What should they know about your programs?

Of course your parents only want the best for you and may have many questions. First and foremost, let your parents know that you will be living with us as a family who will welcome you into their home as a son or daughter. Any other specific questions they have can be answered by a Universal Studies representative either via our very famous Skype meetings or any format they are comfortable with.

What is a typical day like in the life of a participant?

As we are family at Universal Studies, we refer to participants as siblings. Every day starts with a family breakfast, followed by English Class at a Language School with a focus on Grammar, Writing, Listening and Conversation. After Lunch break we head out to places such as San Francisco, Santa Cruz, the Silicon Valley and many more to enjoy the daily interactive afternoon activities. Every evening we come together for a delicious family style dinner and share our stories and experiences.

Did past participants enjoy the program?

To get an idea of what our participants experience with us, you are invited to watch the Universal Studies Trailer on the Home page of our website.

Individual (Concierge) Programs:

What do I get with the Concierge Program?

You get the complete package including housing, activities, overnight trips, English classes and more for one low price.

Can I go anywhere I want in the Concierge Program?

Like with anything, too much of a good thing can spoil you so there may be limitations within our Concierge Program, but we will try to be as accommodating as possible.

What if I am in a Concierge Program and others are not?

Our Concierge Program is designed with friends, groups, and teachers in mind, so if you are part of a group, then this is the right program for you, otherwise we do schedule all or most Concierge Programs together so you can experience life the way you want.
